My dream laptop ;-)

Jun 28 2007 Published by under computers

I was getting really bored so I decided to have some fun and went to Alienware and configure my ‘dream system’ ;-) . Just for fun anyway; here’s the configuration.

I chose the Area-51 m9750 as my base system (with a cost of $2099)

The graphics card: Well, this had to be the best, didn’t it? I chose Dual 512MB GeForce Go 7950 GTX (Yeah, that makes it 1GB ;-) and even Vista doesn’t support it right now. Only one card would be functional until a driver is released by M$)

The chasis: 17″ WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD with Clearview Technology – Stealth Black (Whatever that is, it was the best)

Processor: Intel C2D T7600 2.33GHz (Just out of the factory)

RAM: 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz

OS: I went for Vista Premium (because I was configuring the *best* system; though I doubt I would use it)

Hard Drive: Not much, 250GB SATA ;-)

CD-Drive: Dual Layer Blu-Ray/DVD±R/W/CD-RW Burner

Wireless card: Intel 4965 a/b/g/Draft-N Mini-Card

Warranty: 3 years (just in case :D )

Total cost? $6299 only. ;-) . Suggestions are welcome though :-) .

PS0: Really really bored. Even time-pass is getting difficult now :-( .

PS1: Someone please help me with the reading assignment. I haven’t read a single book. I did try reading The Kite Runner a bit; but it’s not my taste :-( .

PS2: Will be back to institute next week. Mixed feelings about this (sad ‘n’ happy, you know)  :-( .

PS3: I wasn’t asking for much, was I?

Pissed off at IIIT admn

Jun 20 2007 Published by under IIIT

Ya, ya.. Everyone is pissed off at the IIIT guys and why shouldn’t we be? The living facilities at our institute are probably the worst considering the standard of our institute. The poor state of the canteen, single rooms allotted as double occupancy, the worst computing facilities I’ve seen (Pentium III’s!) are just a few things that I’ve been pissed at for now.

So now when the new OBH extension was constructed, all of us at least hoped to get decent rooms to live in. What now, you may ask? Here’s the mail by Shubam Gautam:

All the students who were in NBH & GHEB will not be shifted to OBH-D block and will
continue to stay in their old room with same room partners.
Those who had already been shifted to OBH-D block will shift back to NBH & GHEB.(in
next sem then freshers and we will be living in NBH & GHEB together. This arrangement
is likely to be in place till Dec. Jan.)

PS:the OBH-D block will be occupied by the GURUKULAM students.

Thanks!!

What the hell is this Gurukulam thing anyway? OK then, leaving this fact consider the rent. Last year it was Rs 3825 per person and this year for UG-2 (us now) they have increased it to Rs 6450. Nearly double. What for is what I would like to know?

I say, enough has been taken remaining down. If you are UG2k6, come on let us show them what we are made of. (This is getting senti now :D ). But if you are with me, please let me know.

PS: I was really angry while writing this. So, some cheering up :D .

UPDATE:  Looks like we didn’t have to do anything after all. We will be getting the new rooms. Hurray!

I will think of a title later

Know what I want to do above all everything? I want to stop procrastinating. I had planned to do so much over the holidays and have done nearly nothing.

The book reading assignment: I had never planned to read any stupid book anyway (not especially a Gandhi book since I believe in hinsa :D ). Though I did try. I downloaded “The Kite Runner” (after being told that it good and interesting :D ) torrent (from Isohunt) and downloaded it. Read the acknowledgements (if you are reading a book I believe in reading it from start to finish; notice the IF) and started reading the first chapter and then yawn! I started feeling sleepy. This was about ten days ago and haven’t opened the file since. So much for the reading assignment.

Programming: I had planned to learn C++ and a little bit of Qt. Well, I did start reading a little bit of Bjarne Stroustrup but not much. Also, I read a little of Art of Computer Programming but the progress has been really slow (about 1 page per 2 days :D ).

The weather is pretty nice now. Last week, it was really hot. Today it rained quite heavily in the morning and the weather remained fine the whole day. I went to the Sukhna Lake and had some fun (finally) :D . I wish the weather remains like this.. It is so much fun :-) .

Since torrents are blocked at the institute, I have been downloading a lot and now my hard disk is nearly full and there is nothing I can find to delete :-( .

PS0: 128GB of RAM. See it here. It is something I would definitely want, probably as a second hard-drive :D .

PS1: I wanted to try out F7 but I don’t have a DVD burner and it seems the Fedora guys had to end the multiple CD support from this distro only :-( .

PS2: Stumbling and Digging are taking a lot of my time nowadays :-) .

PS3: Talks about a mess revolt are going on. I hope it works out :D .

PS4: Haven’t played any game ever since I came home. Will start gaming now :D .
